DESCRIPTION:Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra and Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa\, in cooperation with the M90 initiative\, present photo exhibition by Italian photojournalist Mario Boccia\, taken during the siege of Sarajevo in the 1990s. The black-and-white images he captured form a visual archive of a traumatic era\, the harsh everyday life filled with fear and uncertainty that the residents of Sarajevo endured throughout the years of destruction of their city. These photographs are not only testimony to devastation and loss\, but also to hope\, dignity\, and the invisible gestures of solidarity that held the community together.   \nMario Boccia is a photojournalist and author of reports on global issues\, as well as articles and photographs published in numerous Italian media outlets. For twenty years he worked in areas affected by war and poverty across Europe\, Africa\, Latin America\, and the Middle East\, striving to find traces of hope even in the bleakest situations. He was a correspondent and reporter for the Italian daily il Manifesto from Sarajevo\, Belgrade\, Pristina\, Skopje\, Diyarbakır\, and Baghdad. His photographs have been used to promote solidarity campaigns by many NGOs\, non-profit organizations\, and the United Nations.    \nThe exhibition is curated by Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra and Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa. \nThe exhibition Sarajevo 1992–1996 / The Longest Siege will open on December 8 at 7:00 PM at M90 and will run until February 8\, 2026\,   daily 10am – 8pm. Entrance is free.  \nThe hosting of the exhibition is organized within the framework of the ‘Trancityons’ project\, co-funded by the European Union (CERV-2024-CITIZENS-REM).

SUMMARY:“In the Labyrinth”: So\, Where Are We Now?
DESCRIPTION:The year behind us brought significant changes to several countries of the former Yugoslavia\, while the general sense of crisis deepened. In Serbia\, students awakened enormous hope\, energized society\, and raised key questions—but political change did not occur. Should we expect it in 2026? And if so\, in what form?    \n  \nIn Croatia\, Thompson’s concert lifted the rug under which far-right and Ustaša-leaning ideas and actors had been accumulating for decades. Over the summer\, they burst into the public sphere\, banning left-wing and anti-nationalist festivals\, blocking film screenings\, physically attacking events connected to Serbian culture\, but also targeting prominent Croatian intellectuals. Will this trend continue? And with what consequences? In Bosnia and Herzegovina\, it seemed that court rulings might shake the separatist regime of Milorad Dodik\, yet the lifting of U.S. sanctions appeared to return everything to square one. Or did it? Montenegro has slipped into a revisionist spiral by erecting a monument to collaborator and war criminal Pavle Đurišić\, stirring deep ideological and identity-based divisions within society. Meanwhile\, no progress has been made in relations between Serbia and Kosovo. Tensions continue to build. Until when?         \nFinally\, the role of the European Union in the region remains unclear. Will it pressure its own member state\, Croatia\, over the now Europe-wide-recognized rehabilitation and normalization of ideas and symbols associated with the NDH? Has the EU heard the voices from the streets of Serbia and genuinely shifted its approach to the regime of Aleksandar Vučić? Is it pushing him toward early elections\, or does prolonged stagnation suit Brussels just fine? And ultimately\, how do all these questions look from a global perspective—given Donald Trump’s “peace” initiatives in Palestine and Ukraine\, and the intensifying rivalries among the great powers?      \nAll of this will be discussed at M90 – the Museum of the Nineties\, as part of the panel “In the Labyrinth\,” on December 10 at 7 p.m.\, featuring historian Radina Vučetić\, actor Goran Bogdan\, writer Vladimir Arsenijević\, and historian Dubravka Stojanović.  \nDue to the limited number of seats\, all those interested in the panel discussion can pick up their free ticket at the Museum’s ticket office (Kneza Miloša 3) any day between 10 AM and 8 PM.

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, 11 December 2025\, at 6 pm\, a discussion titled “Good and Bad News About the Judiciary in 2025” will be held at M90 – the Museum of the Nineties (Kneza Miloša 3). The event is organized by the Peščanik Citizens’ Association and the Center for Judicial Research (CEPRIS).   \nThis year\, citizens – led by students – addressed their demands for a safe and dignified life to judicial institutions for the first time. How did the judiciary respond to these demands during 2025\, and how did the executive branch respond? What processes are currently unfolding within the judiciary\, and what lies behind the daily news about criminal proceedings against former and current ministers\, the reports on pardons\, the announcements of prosecutorial reorganization and changes to judicial laws\, and\, finally\, behind the first protest jointly organized by judges\, prosecutors\, and lawyers?    \nThese and other questions of crucial importance for the future of the judiciary and the citizens of Serbia will be discussed by Miodrag Majić\, judge of the Belgrade Court of Appeals and CEPRIS member; Vanja Bajović\, associate professor at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law; Bojana Savović\, prosecutor at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade and CEPRIS member; and Vladica Ilić\, lawyer at the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights. The discussion will be moderated by Sofija Mandić\, lawyer and CEPRIS member.

DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, December 22 at 6:00 PM\, the exhibition he Nineties: From Dissent to Resistance will open at the Cultural Center Požarevac. The exhibition is the continuation of a long-term research project dedicated to exploring and presenting alternative perspectives on the turbulent decade of the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia. Through six thematic sections\, it introduces audiences to stories of non-compliance\, resistance\, and civic courage. \nAt a time when war\, hatred\, poverty\, and violence shaped the daily lives of millions\, there were individuals\, collectives\, and organizations who chose not to remain silent—they chose resistance. The exhibition The Nineties: From Dissent to Resistance\, presented three decades after the end of the wars\, pays tribute to those who stood against nationalism\, war\, repression\, and injustice\, often at great personal risk.  \nA significant segment of the exhibition is dedicated to independent and anti-war media\, both print and electronic\, which played a crucial role in exposing propaganda and reporting on war crimes and authoritarian regimes. The exhibition also explores art as a space of resistance\, highlighting how artists used performance\, photography\, music\, and film to challenge dominant political and ideological narratives. In addition\, the exhibition presents protests\, civic initiatives\, and everyday forms of resistance organized across the former Yugoslavia\, including often invisible yet courageous individual acts of solidarity\, assistance\, and refusal to participate in violence. A central feature of the exhibition is the Wall of Heroes\, an homage to individuals who demonstrated exceptional civic courage\, including Srđan Aleksić\, Nedjeljko Galić\, Goran Čengić\, Vladimir Barović\, and others. A particularly moving section\, Goranka’s Niche\, is dedicated to Goranka Matić\, an outstanding photographer and chronicler of social change during the 1990s.   \nThe exhibition The Nineties: From Dissent to Resistance will be open until January 10\, 2026\, at the Požarevac Cultural Center (Jovana Šerbanovića 1)\, daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.   \nThis exhibition emerged from the Museum of the Nineties initiative\,which has previously presented acclaimed exhibitions in Belgrade\, Sarajevo\, and Podgorica. In June 2025\, the permanent exhibition The Labyrinth of the Nineties opened in Belgrade.The exhibition is organized by Cultural Front\, M90 –  Museum of the Nineties\, and the Požarevac Cultural Center\, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the MATRA programme\, NED – National Endowment for Democracy\, as well as the European Fund for the Balkans (EFB) and the Shared Horizons project\, funded by the Republic of France and implemented by Expertise France Groupe AFD.
