DESCRIPTION:Opening: May 16\, 2026 at 7 PMDom mladih Tuzla   \nThe Public Institution Center for Culture Tuzla and the Museum of the 90s from Belgrade are opening the exhibition “The Nineties: From Refusal to Resistance”\, dedicated to individuals\, collectives\, and organizations who chose resistance instead of silence during the wars and crises of the nineties. \nThe exhibition continues a years-long effort to research and present alternative perspectives on the nineties across the former Yugoslavia. Thirty years after the end of the wars\, it focuses on civic courage\, anti-war activism\, solidarity\, and everyday forms of resistance to nationalism\, repression\, and violence.  \nThrough six thematic sections\, visitors will encounter stories of refusal and civic responsibility\, as well as the role of independent media\, art\, protests\, and civic initiatives in resisting authoritarian regimes and war propaganda. \nOne of the exhibition’s central segments is the Wall of Heroes\, dedicated to individuals who demonstrated extraordinary civic courage\, including Srđan Aleksić\, Nedjeljko Galić\, Goran Čengić\, Vladimir Barović\, Tomo Buzov\, and others. A special section\, Goranka’s Niche\, is dedicated to photographer Goranka Matić and her work as an important testimony to the social transformations of the nineties.  \nThe exhibition will remain open to visitors until June 30\, 2026\, every day from 10 AM to 7 PM.   \nThe exhibition was developed as part of the Museum of the 90s initiative\, which has previously presented exhibitions in Belgrade\, Sarajevo\, and Podgorica.

SUMMARY:My Nineties – Conversations on Personal Experiences
DESCRIPTION:At the Museum of the Nineties\, we often introduce new program formats. One of them will now become a regular addition to our permanent exhibition\, titled “My Nineties – Conversations on Personal Experiences.” As the title suggests\, our aim is to create a safe space where visitors\, guided by qualified facilitators\, can reflect on and share personal experiences from a decade that has\, directly or indirectly\, shaped us all in different ways.  \nMental health professionals will guide participants through these sessions\, offering an opportunity to reflect on how the museum content resonates with their personal experiences\, to explore connections between the exhibition narratives and their own individual or family memories\, and to share these insights with others at a pace and in a way that feels appropriate to them.  \nWe believe that stories connect people on a deeper level. For this reason\, we are opening this space for intergenerational and interpersonal exchange\, bringing together those who were adults during the Nineties\, those who were born during that time\, and those who do not remember the wars but may gain new insights into themselves and the ways in which the Nineties shape their lives and/or family histories today. \nThe sessions will be held regularly\, once every ten days\, starting on Sunday\, April 26\, 2026\, from 18:00 to 19:30\, at the Museum (first floor). The participation fee is 2000 RSD\, which also includes access to the Museum’s permanent exhibition. We recommend visiting the exhibition shortly before the session\, in order to get the most out of the experience and support provided\, though all interested participants are welcome\, including those who have visited the exhibition previously.     \nIf you are interested\, please register by completing the form at the following link no later than two days before the event: https://forms.gle/XaGoSSHMVeuTuKCu7 or write to us on moje.devedesete@museum90.com . In case of high interest\, a waiting list will be created. DESCRIPTION:May 19\, 2026 at 7 PM  \nThe Museum of the Nineties and the music journal New Sound invite you to a lecture by Prof. Dr. Marijana Kokanović Marković (Academy of Arts\, University of Novi Sad) dedicated to the forgotten composition Union is Strength (“Hymn of the Balkans”)\, composed in 1899 by Hungarian composer Kálmán Roth-Rónay to lyrics written by Elodie Mijatović\, wife of Serbian diplomat Čedomilj Mijatović.  \nCreated on the occasion of the First Hague Peace Conference in 1899\, the composition symbolized the idea of Balkan unity\, as well as the cultural and political ties between Serbia and Great Britain\, actively promoted by the Mijatović couple.  \nThe lecture will explore the origins of this nearly forgotten work\, while also shedding light on the broader diplomatic\, cultural\, and political activities of Elodie and Čedomilj Mijatović and their role in the international affirmation of Serbia at the end of the 19th century.  \nAs part of the event\, the performance of the Balkan National Anthem will be held in the house of the Mijatović couple\, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the building of the house in Kneza Miloša Street. \nThe composition will be performed by: \n\nRadoslava Vorgić Žuržovan (soprano)\nDarija Čanji (violin)\nNevena Sovtić (piano)\n\nAn introductory talk on the history of the house will be given by Petar Marković\, its current owner. \nThe number of places is limited. \nTickets at a price of RSD 300 are available at the Museum of the Nineties (Kneza Miloša 3\, Belgrade) every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. By purchasing each ticket\, you help the development of the program in the Museum of the Nineties.

Through the stories of young people\, teachers\, journalists\, and activists\, the film raises questions of collective memory\, education\, and the ways in which history is passed on to new generations.  \nFollowing the lives of two students growing up within parallel\, often opposing systems\, the film highlights deep social divisions and differing interpretations of recent history. DESCRIPTION:May 30\, June 6\, June 13 & June 20\, 2026    \n11:00 \nThe Nineties Photography Workshop\, led by photographer and conceptual documentarian Srđan Veljović\, is conceived as a discussion group exploring the 90s through the perspective of personal photographic archives. \nStarting from the idea that discourse about the past is deeply ideological and that establishing a single narrative about this period is nearly impossible\, the workshop creates space for a different kind of conversation about the 90s — through photography\, personal experience\, and subjective perspectives. \n“The past is something that cannot be avoided today wherever we go\, whether backward or forward\, something that concerns everyone\, everywhere… A past more relevant than the present and more uncertain than the future.”\n— Boris Buden\, Introduction to the Past \nThrough photographs addressing the 90s from different\, predominantly subjective viewpoints\, participants will collaboratively build their own narratives about the past. \nEach session functions as a standalone workshop\, focusing on different themes and photographic cycles from Srđan Veljović’s body of work: the period from the Eighth Session of the Central Committee of Serbia to October 5th\, photographs of Prague and Berlin during the fall of the Berlin Wall\, experiences related to the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) and the 1999 NATO intervention\, the lives of (New) Belgrade youth in the 1980s and 1990s\, as well as Srebrenica commemorations.  \nSrđan Veljović (b. 1968) is a photographer and conceptual documentarian whose work explores questions of identity\, borders\, memory culture\, and social transformation. How do we cope with separation from familiar people\, places\, and languages?
