And what is their connection to the writers whose surnames are Bogdanović\, Pavićević\, Kovač\, Mehmedinović\, Matvejević\, Slapšak\, Hemon\, Krleža\, Drndić\, and Kiš? What kind of conspiracy are they part of? DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, March 22\, at 7 PM\, we will present the book “Such Were the Times” by Jelena Trpković.  \nThe diary entries of painter Jelena Trpković cover the period from 1989 to 2006\, but are most concentrated around the dramatic events of the war years: the siege and bombing of Dubrovnik\, the death of her husband Milan Milišić\, her return to Belgrade\, wartime Belgrade\, and the first post-war years. During this time\, Jelena travels under extremely difficult conditions across a fragmented country\, maintains contact with friends across Yugoslavia\, co-founds peace movements and protests\, and fights against hatred and violence…This authentic testimony is a compelling read and reveals many lesser-known aspects of wartime reality. The book is also a brief history of the cultural scene in Belgrade\, Serbia\, and Yugoslavia during those years. It brings together the names of those who refused hatred alongside those who created it. It is also a story of broken friendships and newly formed\, anti-war ones. Images of destruction and war intertwine with images of resistance. The book is both a chronicle of the Yugoslav drama of disintegration and war\, and of everyday life marked by sanctions\, closed borders\, broken connections\, and constant struggle. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the talk “35 years later”\, on Sunday\, March 8 at 7 PM.   \nIt has been 35 years since March 9\, 1991\, the largest protest against the government of Slobodan Milošević up to that point. The authorities carried out an unprecedented repressive action against the demonstrators\, using tear gas\, water cannons and even cavalry. One student and one police officer were killed. Vuk Drašković and opposition representatives retreated to the National Theatre building and addressed the crowd from the balcony. In the evening\, tanks arrived on the central streets. Mass arrests began\, and Vuk Drašković also ended up in prison. The next morning\, students left the Student campus\, and after clashes with the police on Brankov Bridge\, they “occupied” the Terazije square. After a few days\, the demands were accepted\, the leadership of National television and the Minister of Police were replaced\, and all those arrested were released from prison.          \nCould March 9 have been a turning point in the history of Yugoslavia? Could it have prevented the war? Did Milošević apply such force because of this?     \nVuk Drašković and Jelena Obućina will discuss these and many later events. \n  \nThe number of places is limited. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, March 5 at 7 PM for a screening of the film  “Krugovi” followed by a conversation with the autor\, Srdan Golubović\, at the Museum of the Nineties. \n“Circles\,” by Srdan Golubović\, is a film that should be revisited and shown to every subsequent generation because it brilliantly tells the story of individual heroism in times of evil.Trebinje\, January 1993. A young Srđan Aleksić\, an amateur actor and talented swimmer\, is serving in the Army of the Republic of Srpska. On that day\, he finds himself in the main square in Trebinje at the moment when a group of Serbian reservists begins to harass a Bosniak named Alen Glavović\, who is also Srđan’s neighbor. He tries to prevent them from carrying out their intentions\, but the group turns against Srđan and brutally beats him. A few days later\, due to the injuries sustained\, Srđan dies in the hospital. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the panel “Uniformity of Opinion”\, dedicated to the recent amendments to the Textbook Law and the announced introduction of textbooks of special national importance. The panel will take place on March 3\, 2026\, at the Museum of the Ninties (Kneza Miloša 3\, Belgrade)\, starting at 11:00 AM.    \nIn recent months\, the issue of national textbooks has raised serious questions about the direction of education policy. While the executive authorities insist that the state should take a key role in defining “nationally important content\,” part of the professional community warns that such intervention could lead to a narrowing of space for critical debate\, undermine professional standards in textbook development\, and further politicize education.   \nWhat exactly do these amendments bring\, and what long-term consequences might they have for future generations of students? \nThese questions will be discussed by: \nProf. Dr. Dubravka Stojanović and Prof. Dr. Dragica Pavlović Babić\, Faculty of Philosophy\, University of Belgrade \nAna Manojlović\, journalist at RTS \nDejan Ilić\, columnist \nGordana Plemić\, Association of Parents \nDositej Jovanović\, Union of Secondary School Students of Serbia \nParticipants will speak about the quality of existing textbooks\, the transparency of procedures for introducing new editions\, as well as possible models that could make the entire process more open and accountable to the public. A special part of the discussion will focus on the availability of information and the role of the media in monitoring education policies—how clear decision-making procedures are\, how accessible data is to the public\, and what challenges journalists face when trying to obtain such information. The panel will also address how education policies\, and the way they are presented to the public\, shape the public sphere and influence the formation of young people’s views.   \n  \nThe project is implemented within the “EU Resource Center for Civil Society in Serbia” project\, carried out by Belgrade Open School in partnership with civil society organizations: Novi Sad School of Journalism\, ENECA\, Užice Center for the Rights of the Child\, Nova Planska Praksa\, Sigurne Staze\, Young Farmers of Serbia\, and the international partner\, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. The project is supported by the European Union and will be implemented in the period from 2023 to 2026.

SUMMARY:Discussion “Is There a Way Out of the Past? – Conflicting Memories and the Struggle for the Future”
DESCRIPTION:As part of the series “In the Labyrinth”\, on Saturday\, February 28\, at 7P PM a discussion titled  “Is There a Way Out of the Past? – Conflicting Memories and the Struggle for the Future” will take place. . \nThe states that emerged after the breakup of Yugoslavia are sinking ever deeper into the past. Instead of turning toward the present\, they remain trapped in historical narratives that political elites continuously abuse. Maintaining tensions and conflicts is often based precisely on manipulating the past\, as it most easily provokes strong emotions and blurs our view of reality.   \nThe discussion will address the normalization of Ustaša ideology in Croatia\, the revitalization of Chetnik ideology in Montenegro\, memory wars in Bosnia and Herzegovina\, the return of Macedonia to antiquity\, as well as the victory of collaborationist narratives in Serbia. DESCRIPTION:On February 14\, one year will have passed since our comrade Borka Vasić left us. She was a fighter for human rights\, social justice\, and animal protection. We remember her as a Romani feminist and peace activist. Her activism was never in the spotlight or neatly packaged for social media — it was a daily\, hands-on response to the needs of people and street animals\, work that mostly remained under the radar.Borka’s story is part of the neglected history of our movements\, a history that calls on us to redefine our understanding of activism and our relationship to older activists who have paved the way for us.     \nn our effort to open space for a feminist future\, we document the histories of our movements\, especially those pushed to the margins\, such as Romani women’s history. We revise the white\, dominant\, and variously privileged narrative about ourselves\, and we gather to remember\, to question\, to speak\, to mourn\, and to reflect. From these processes emerged the short film “Borka: From the Verb ‘To Fight’”\, produced by Befem\, which we will screen on February 18\, 2026\, at 6 PM at the Museum of the 1990s. The screening will be followed by the announcement of a publication on Borka’s life and engagement\, along with a community conversation about mutual care within movements. DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “In the absence of evidence” opens on February 12 at 7 p.m. in the space M90 ​​(Kneza Miloša 3\, Belgrade)\, and will last until March 30 everyday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.   \nPredrag Koraksić Corax is one of the most important Serbian political cartoonists and one of the few authors whose works from the nineties seem almost disturbingly current today. His caricatures created during the breakup of Yugoslavia\, the wars and the authoritarian rule of Milošević\, today\, with minimal “aesthetic” changes\, are read again as precise comments on contemporary political reality. Maybe some actors are not present now\, but with a subtle change in hairstyle and facial features\, the same caricatures from the nineties are painfully current and accurately describe what is happening to us today.   \nCorax was born in 1933 in Čačak. He spent his childhood in exile\, as his father was killed by Chetniks at the beginning of the Second World War. He completed high school in Zemun and studied architecture in Belgrade. He began working as a cartoonist in 1950 in the satirical magazine Jež\, launching a long and courageous media career that would make him one of the most recognizable critics of political power in Serbia.      \nOver the decades\, he has been publishing cartoons in numerous newspapers and magazines\, including Večernje novosti\, Borba\, Naša Borba\, and Vreme. Since the founding till today\, he has been regularly publishing his cartoons in the daily newspaper Danas. In 2004\, he was awarded the French Order of the Legion of Honour for his work.  \nCorax’s drawing style\, always unique and instantly recognizable\, was shaped under the strong influence of the American cartoonist and illustrator Saul Steinberg\, which is why his earliest drawings were executed exclusively with pen. Artists such as Pjer Križanić and Ivan Lučev were also among his role models\, with Ivan Lučev playing a particularly significant role: at the beginning of Corax’s career at  Jež\, Lučev gave him anatomy lessons and encouraged him to switch to working with a brush\, a technique that would become one of the hallmarks of his artistic signature. Political cartooning was Corax’s primary interest from the very beginning. With the rise of Slobodan Milošević on the political scene\, he began\, without hesitation\, an open and uncompromising critique of the regime and its policies. During the eleven years of Milošević’s rule\, from the 1990s until 2001\, Corax published around four thousand cartoons that clearly\, courageously\, and precisely bore witness to the reality of that time.The exhibition In the Absence of Evidence presents a concise selection of the artist’s works from the 1990s in dialogue with contemporary cartoons created over the past five years and published in      Danas.  \n \nThe ticket price is 300 RSD.

He is a former member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina… The accident\, the war\, and the conservative environment in which Ramiz lives have brought him to the edge. The system was not benevolent\, but instead of despairing\, Ramiz decides to go out into the street and first speak about the mentally ill\, and then about all the victims of distorted systems and societies – from the victims of war crimes\, genocide\, to the victims of homophobia. These meetings and the aid that was sent could not help the citizens of Sarajevo much\, as they lacked food\, water\, electricity and medicine. DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, December 22 at 6:00 PM\, the exhibition he Nineties: From Dissent to Resistance will open at the Cultural Center Požarevac. The exhibition is the continuation of a long-term research project dedicated to exploring and presenting alternative perspectives on the turbulent decade of the 1990s in the former Yugoslavia. Through six thematic sections\, it introduces audiences to stories of non-compliance\, resistance\, and civic courage. \nAt a time when war\, hatred\, poverty\, and violence shaped the daily lives of millions\, there were individuals\, collectives\, and organizations who chose not to remain silent—they chose resistance. The exhibition The Nineties: From Dissent to Resistance\, presented three decades after the end of the wars\, pays tribute to those who stood against nationalism\, war\, repression\, and injustice\, often at great personal risk.  \nA significant segment of the exhibition is dedicated to independent and anti-war media\, both print and electronic\, which played a crucial role in exposing propaganda and reporting on war crimes and authoritarian regimes. The exhibition also explores art as a space of resistance\, highlighting how artists used performance\, photography\, music\, and film to challenge dominant political and ideological narratives. In addition\, the exhibition presents protests\, civic initiatives\, and everyday forms of resistance organized across the former Yugoslavia\, including often invisible yet courageous individual acts of solidarity\, assistance\, and refusal to participate in violence. A central feature of the exhibition is the Wall of Heroes\, an homage to individuals who demonstrated exceptional civic courage\, including Srđan Aleksić\, Nedjeljko Galić\, Goran Čengić\, Vladimir Barović\, and others. A particularly moving section\, Goranka’s Niche\, is dedicated to Goranka Matić\, an outstanding photographer and chronicler of social change during the 1990s.   \nThe exhibition The Nineties: From Dissent to Resistance will be open until January 10\, 2026\, at the Požarevac Cultural Center (Jovana Šerbanovića 1)\, daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.   \nThis exhibition emerged from the Museum of the Nineties initiative\,which has previously presented acclaimed exhibitions in Belgrade\, Sarajevo\, and Podgorica. In June 2025\, the permanent exhibition The Labyrinth of the Nineties opened in Belgrade.The exhibition is organized by Cultural Front\, M90 –  Museum of the Nineties\, and the Požarevac Cultural Center\, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the MATRA programme\, NED – National Endowment for Democracy\, as well as the European Fund for the Balkans (EFB) and the Shared Horizons project\, funded by the Republic of France and implemented by Expertise France Groupe AFD. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, December 18\, 2025\, starting at 7 PM\, a panel discussion titled “In the Jaws of Life and Politics – Serbian Film in 2025” will be held.   \nAt the end of a year in which the Film Center of Serbia did not open a single call for supporting local film makers\, when film festival FEST was not held (it only happened in 1993. and 1994. in the times of wars)\, and on the other hand\, supported by budget reserves\, a new National Film Festival on Zlatibor suddenly emerged; in a time when only“harmless” and politically suitable films are becoming Serbia’s Oscar submissions\, and when actors are denied work due to their political views — we will discuss the state of Serbian cinematography\, as well as society in general\, with Srđan Dragojević\, director and screenwriter\, Ana Marija Rossi\, director and screenwriter\, Tihomir Stanić\, actor\, Dragana Jovović\, producer\, and Nađa Petrović\, screenwriter. \nBy purchasing a ticket for 300 RSD\, you support the work and development of the Museum of the Nineties program.

DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, 11 December 2025\, at 6 pm\, a discussion titled “Good and Bad News About the Judiciary in 2025” will be held at M90 – the Museum of the Nineties (Kneza Miloša 3). The event is organized by the Peščanik Citizens’ Association and the Center for Judicial Research (CEPRIS).   \nThis year\, citizens – led by students – addressed their demands for a safe and dignified life to judicial institutions for the first time. How did the judiciary respond to these demands during 2025\, and how did the executive branch respond? What processes are currently unfolding within the judiciary\, and what lies behind the daily news about criminal proceedings against former and current ministers\, the reports on pardons\, the announcements of prosecutorial reorganization and changes to judicial laws\, and\, finally\, behind the first protest jointly organized by judges\, prosecutors\, and lawyers?    \nThese and other questions of crucial importance for the future of the judiciary and the citizens of Serbia will be discussed by Miodrag Majić\, judge of the Belgrade Court of Appeals and CEPRIS member; Vanja Bajović\, associate professor at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law; Bojana Savović\, prosecutor at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade and CEPRIS member; and Vladica Ilić\, lawyer at the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights. The discussion will be moderated by Sofija Mandić\, lawyer and CEPRIS member.
