DESCRIPTION:The exhibition „Yugo.logo: Signs by the Roadside” is opening on April 18th at 19:00!  \nThe exhibition presents a selection of logos and visual identities created across the territory of the former Yugoslavia. The project’s authors\, graphic designers Ognjen Ranković and Antonio Karača\, have spent years systematically collecting and researching this material\, which they have brought together under the name  Yugo.logo.. The exhibition presents a portion of their extensive collection\, directing our attention to a time when graphic design played an important role in shaping public space\, industrial production\, and everyday visual culture. The logos on display are not merely traces of former companies\, cultural institutions\, and brands\, but also testimonies to a broader system of values\, aesthetic norms\, and social aspirations. Positioned between East and West\, and in dialogue with contemporary global design trends of the time\, the Yugoslav graphic design scene of the second half of the twentieth century developed a distinctive and authentic visual language. This language was at once functional\, modern\, and closely connected to the needs of a developed industrial and public sphere. Despite the temporal distance and radically transformed conditions of production and the market\, the works presented here continue to retain their formal clarity\, precision\, and aesthetic relevance. Their visual economy\, wit\, and ability to communicate the identity of a company or institution through the interplay of letters\, words\, forms\, and stylized motifs confirm that these are works of enduring design value\, transcending the historical framework of their origin.       \nA particular value of the Yugo.logo project lies in its documentary dimension. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia\, a large part of the material and immaterial heritage related to industry\, production\, and applied art was left neglected\, fragmented\, or irretrievably lost. In this context\, what Yugo.logo achieves through collecting\, systematizing\, and publicly presenting this material constitutes an important act of cultural revaluation. The exhibition title    “Signs by the Roadside” further guides the reading of this material toward symbols that were present in everyday life for decades\, and which today endure as visual remnants of a former social and economic system\, as well as of a shared cultural heritage. \nOgnjen Ranković\nBorn in 1991 in Belgrade\, Serbia. Self-taught designer\, researcher\, archivist\, and collector. Independently and as part of various teams\, he has participated in the realization of more than 150 commercial projects and over 50 projects in the field of independent culture. He is the founder of the Yugo.logo project\, the author of two Yugo.logo books\, and co-author of 20 yugo.logo exhibitions (Serbia\, Bosnia and Herzegovina\, Montenegro\, Croatia\, North Macedonia\, and Italy).    \n\nAntonio Karača\nBorn in 1988 in Požega\, Croatia. Designer\, publisher\, mentor\, and lecturer. He completed his Master’s degree in Visual Communications Design at the University of Zagreb. He is the recipient of multiple recognitions and awards in the field of visual communication and identity design. Since 2010\, he has been a member of Parabureau\, Fahrenheit / McCann Erickson\, and Craft. Since 2017\, he has worked independently as the founder of the Radnja studio (Zagreb).        2023. In 2023\, he launched the Radnja publishing house\, which has so far published two Yugo.logo books and three music albums by artists from the region.. \nYou can visit the exhibition untill Maj 19th\, everyday from 10:00 – 20:00.  \nThe ticket price is 300 RSD. SUMMARY:Exhibition “The Nineties: From Refusal to Resistance” in Dom mladih Tuzla
DESCRIPTION:Opening: May 16\, 2026 at 7 PMDom mladih Tuzla   \nThe Public Institution Center for Culture Tuzla and the Museum of the 90s from Belgrade are opening the exhibition “The Nineties: From Refusal to Resistance”\, dedicated to individuals\, collectives\, and organizations who chose resistance instead of silence during the wars and crises of the nineties. \nThe exhibition continues a years-long effort to research and present alternative perspectives on the nineties across the former Yugoslavia. Thirty years after the end of the wars\, it focuses on civic courage\, anti-war activism\, solidarity\, and everyday forms of resistance to nationalism\, repression\, and violence.  \nThrough six thematic sections\, visitors will encounter stories of refusal and civic responsibility\, as well as the role of independent media\, art\, protests\, and civic initiatives in resisting authoritarian regimes and war propaganda. \nOne of the exhibition’s central segments is the Wall of Heroes\, dedicated to individuals who demonstrated extraordinary civic courage\, including Srđan Aleksić\, Nedjeljko Galić\, Goran Čengić\, Vladimir Barović\, Tomo Buzov\, and others. A special section\, Goranka’s Niche\, is dedicated to photographer Goranka Matić and her work as an important testimony to the social transformations of the nineties.  \nThe exhibition will remain open to visitors until June 30\, 2026\, every day from 10 AM to 7 PM.   \nThe exhibition was developed as part of the Museum of the 90s initiative\, which has previously presented exhibitions in Belgrade\, Sarajevo\, and Podgorica.

SUMMARY:“Hymn of the Balkans” — The Cultural and Political Mission of Elodie and Čedomilj Mijatović
DESCRIPTION:May 19\, 2026 at 7 PM  \nThe Museum of the Nineties and the music journal New Sound invite you to a lecture by Prof. Dr. Marijana Kokanović Marković (Academy of Arts\, University of Novi Sad) dedicated to the forgotten composition Union is Strength (“Hymn of the Balkans”)\, composed in 1899 by Hungarian composer Kálmán Roth-Rónay to lyrics written by Elodie Mijatović\, wife of Serbian diplomat Čedomilj Mijatović.  \nCreated on the occasion of the First Hague Peace Conference in 1899\, the composition symbolized the idea of Balkan unity\, as well as the cultural and political ties between Serbia and Great Britain\, actively promoted by the Mijatović couple.  \nThe lecture will explore the origins of this nearly forgotten work\, while also shedding light on the broader diplomatic\, cultural\, and political activities of Elodie and Čedomilj Mijatović and their role in the international affirmation of Serbia at the end of the 19th century.  \nAs part of the event\, the performance of the Balkan National Anthem will be held in the house of the Mijatović couple\, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the building of the house in Kneza Miloša Street. \nThe composition will be performed by: \n\nRadoslava Vorgić Žuržovan (soprano)\nDarija Čanji (violin)\nNevena Sovtić (piano)\n\nAn introductory talk on the history of the house will be given by Petar Marković\, its current owner. \nThe number of places is limited. \nTickets at a price of RSD 300 are available at the Museum of the Nineties (Kneza Miloša 3\, Belgrade) every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. By purchasing each ticket\, you help the development of the program in the Museum of the Nineties.
